eCommerce has come a long way. It is no longer primarily the domain of large businesses with the money to invest in $100,000 eCommerce builds. Small businesses now have powerful shopping cart solutions available to them, and there are even more options at the enterprise level.

All the eCommerce options available to you today can be a bit overwhelming; so, to simplify things a bit, we'll say this: at its core, an eCommerce platform should be easy to use, should let you update your own products easily, manage orders easily and should provide a secure, simple checkout process for the customer. Beyond that, it should be scalable enough to allow your eCommerce business to grow, and flexible enough that we can build any custom features you may require.

The Shopify hosted commerce platform.
Shopify has thus far shown great promise due to its modular architecture and flexible API, which lets us build new features into the core despite the software being a proprietary, hosted solution. Shopify is a great way for us to help a client with a smaller budget enter into the eCommerce world, and it will scale well into a more advanced, customized eCommerce experience, should that be where our client's needs lay.

For those who are wary of proprietary hosted solutions like Shopify, we can work with OpenCart-- a new, powerful and wonderfully scalable opensource solution. In fact, we've engineered a way to completely integrate OpenCart and Shopify with a powerful WordPress Content Management System, for the ultimate in both commerce and content. The upcoming BottleMarket.com website reflects this wonderful integration (launching in April of 2011).

We've recently built some of the most advanced websites in our portfolio by leveraging the fairly promising Magento Commerce platform, building in custom features like the ability to sell video on demand through a Magento store (Pranamaya Studio). * While we have built several sites with the Magento platform and understand it quite well, we no longer feel comfortable recommending their opensource Community Edition to our clients. We can, however, help you maintain your pre-existing Magento site, if need-be, or work with your Magento Enterprise website.
